Entertainment and hang-out spaces for the large sociable family to relax in were high on the list of our clients’ priorities for this once featureless garden.  With the plot wrapping around a holiday home in a semi-rural location we needed to ensure that it was low maintenance and would sit comfortably in the surrounding landscape. 

Adjacent to the house, we created a generous timber deck with wide steps down to a circular seating area and a fire pit to suit cool evening gatherings. Sinuous drifts of grasses, geraniums and dogwoods meander from this hub to the highest point of the garden. Here, a curved dry-stone wall with a cantilevered solid oak seat forms a sheltered nook from which to admire the views beyond the boundary fences. In a short time tiny ferns and saxifrages have begun to colonise the joints between the courses of Blue Pennant stone.
